Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the Washington Institute for Diplomacy and Civilizational Dialogue ("WID", "we") collects on usdiplomacydialogue.us and globaldiplomacy.us, and what we do with it. Global Diplomacy is the journal WID publishes with Instituto Diplomacia (Brazil).

What we collect

  • When you subscribe to a newsletter: the email address you enter, and which newsletter you chose, Global Affairs Insights or Global Diplomacy This Week. We ask for nothing else.
  • When you visit: like any website, our servers and our network provider receive the technical information needed to deliver a page, such as your IP address, your browser type and the page you requested.
  • We do not use cookies, analytics tools, advertising pixels or any other tracking technology on these sites.

How we use it

  • To send the newsletter you asked for. We have not sent an issue yet, and every issue we send will include a link to unsubscribe.
  • To deliver the sites and keep them secure, including limiting abuse of the subscription forms.
  • We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing.

Where it is kept and who processes it

  • Your email address is stored in our database, on a server in France (European Union) run by OVH, our hosting provider.
  • Cloudflare delivers and protects the sites and processes the technical information of each visit on our behalf.
  • Our servers keep technical logs for security and troubleshooting. They are collected by a monitoring service running on the same machine, in France, and no deletion date is set for them yet. A subscription is recorded with the email address partly hidden, except when a subscription fails, when the full address is kept so we can complete it by hand. The only complete address that appears in those logs by design is our own institutional one.
  • The database is copied once a day, and the copies are kept on the same server.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address while you are subscribed. You can erase it at any time with the form at the end of this page, and it leaves our subscriber records at once.

Your choices

  • To unsubscribe and erase your address, use the form at the end of this page. The reply is the same whether or not the address was subscribed, so no one can use the form to learn who is on our lists.
  • What we hold about a subscriber is the email address and the newsletter chosen. Nothing else is linked to it.
  • We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by California law.

Do Not Track

We do not track visitors across websites, so these sites behave the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal. No third party collects information about your activity on these sites over time or across other websites.

Children

These sites are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

We will post any change on this page and update the date at the top.

Erase your email address

Enter the address you subscribed with. It leaves our subscriber records at once, and no newsletter will be sent to it.
